Product Description

Your Licuala Palm giclee print is created from an original watercolour that was created after a visit to Queensland, Australia.

There’s a small part of the Queensland coast where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. It’s called the Cassowary Coast and is the location of Australia’s biggest Fan Palm forest – The Licuala State Forest.  This particular forest is part of the Djiru National Park.

The Story of the Licuala Palm Giclee Print

The area’s population of Cassowaries is rare and these birds are severely endangered, The Fan Palm forest is key to the bird’s survival. Equally, the birds are key to the survival of the rainforest. There’s a symbiotic relationship that is in a delicate balance.

I became more aware of this balance and the cycle of life that allows new growth to arise in the rainforest. The majestic Licuala Palms epitomise this cycle. The leaves can grow to a 2m span, providing deep shade at the forest floor level, cutting off the life-generating sunlight. As each leaf dies, it drops towards the ground, gradually curling and changing to a deep rust-brown colour. Vast leaves create rich compost and open up gaps for the sunlight.

This painting tells the story of light and life in the Licuala Palm forest.
