Gel Plate Printing and Beyond is ideal for artists who have never used gel plates before, as well as those who would like to expand their experience of printing without a press. 

Carol is a printmaker and painter whose work has been exhibited in galleries across the UK. She brings her painting and printmaking together in her work. Carol helps artists in her workshops to explore the depth of possible images and styles with gel plate printing. 

What you will get from the Gel Plate Printing and Beyond workshop

The focus of day one of this workshop will be gel plate techniques. Attendees will use a series of methods to master the creation of different image types and styles using acrylic paint on the plate. Carol will demonstrate different types of imprint masks and explain their use. Attendees will have ample opportunity to create prints using all of the techniques demonstrated. 

Day two takes the artist beyond gel print making.  Carol will explain ways of using prints to create a complete piece of artwork. Attendees will then be able to use some of the prints they have made to create an abstract painting, or they can continue making more gel print plates with Carol’s guidance.

Attendees will need to bring their preferred acrylic paint colours and any specific paper they may want to try for printing. A supply of standard print papers will be available. Most tools and materials will be provided. 

If you fall in love with Gel Plate printing as I did, you’ll want to get your own plate and brayers. But until you’ve discovered just how exciting this technique can be, you can use Carol’s equipment for the workshop.
