South African born Vandy Massey expresses her love of the natural world through her loose and expressive watercolours.
Vandy chaired the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists for four years. She strengthened the society’s strategic links with the Royal Watercolour Society and the Royal Institute for Painters in Water Colours. She teachers popular workshops on experimental watercolours, landscapes and flowers in loose watercolour. As a result of her personal approach, her workshops gain excellent feedback from artists.
Vandy loves the freshness of contemporary watercolour. She loves the way the paint has a life of its own and thrives on the perpetual tensions between the artist and this medium. The freedom of watercolour is one of the aspects of the medium that attracts her to its challenges and its translucent beauty.
In 2015, Vandy found that some of the artists she wanted to study with did not teach in the UK, so she started hosting workshops in Cambridgeshire. Artists from across the globe come to teach in Cambridge because of Vandy’s wish to paint with some of the world’s best tutors. Through the 2020 and 2021 because of the challenges of lockdowns, she worked with tutors from the UK and expanded her own range of workshops.
She is captivated by colour and light, so she captures these elements in her flower and tree paintings, and landscapes. Vandy Massey has work is in private collections across the world. You can find out more about Vandy Massey here.
